Dominating Second Half Too Much for Highland Park to Handle

The Hinsdale Central Red Devils boys lacrosse team opened their 2017 season on a cold Thursday night at Dickinson field against visiting Highland Park High School. The Devils entered the game ranked 9th by True Lacrosse in the pre-season Illinois state poll and did not disappoint, as they ran away in the second half to win 10-3. HCHS was led on the offensive end by the playmaking of senior co-captain Colin Parker. Parker’s five point evening included 2 goals, 3 assistants and constant energy to set the pace for the Red Devils. Senior Mark Ferrino pitched in with two goals, junior Lucian DiPofi added two assists and Peter Marcus balanced the offensive attack with 1 goal and 1 assist.  HCHS dominated at the face-off winning 10 of 16 with senior co-captain Jake Simon winning 8 of 13 and DiPofi taking 2 of 3.

The Devils blew open a 4-3 game in the second half with a swarming defense creating constant pressure. Co-captains Jack Cain and John Kwasigroch were joined by running mate Robbie Kress, as they put the clamps on Highland Park’s offense.  The surprise player of the game was sophomore goal-keeper Capison Pang. CP1, getting his first career varsity start, was nearly flawless with a 70% save percentage and efficient clears throughout the game.  The defense and keeper found their rhythm in their second half shut out of the Giants, with CP1 looking like a seasoned vet, not a sophomore getting his first start under the bright lights on Dickinson Field.

The Red Devils varsity will be back in action next Tuesday night when they visit Naperville Central for a 7:30pm clash of west suburban powers. HCHS Freshman (Tower Field) and JV (Dickinson Field) both open their seasons on Friday evening at 5:00pm.
